Whether or not it’s used in conjunction with the C4 Oversized Tire Fitment kit, the C4 Body Mount Relocation system gains valuable tire clearance when compared to the oversized factory mounts.
If you’ve fit bigger tires and wider offset wheels to a Toyota, you’ve likely run into interference at the back of the front wheel well, even after removing the factory mud flaps and doing a little massaging and trimming to the bodywork. Push comes to shove when the outside edge of your tire contacts the steel body mount, ripping at the tread, making quite a racket and binding when the suspension needs to compress to full squish. Likely, you’re hitting the massive hunk of steel Toyota uses for its front cab body mount, a monstrosity that sticks off the frame just behind the front wheel well. For many, the answer is to hack away at the factory mount, and a number of outfits supply steel patches that are meant to be welded in to bring back a bit of strength while gaining just a tad more tire clearance.
Going a different direction, C4 Fabrication designed a more comprehensive solution. By removing the entire steel spar that sticks off the frame and replacing it with sleeker components, you not only gain clearance due to a more refined mount design, but it also gives the ability to shrink the diameter of the body mount bushing itself. C4 has done just that, using a high quality replaceable rubber bushing that doesn’t occupy as large of a footprint.
Strength of the new system is substantial as well, with a reinforcing frame pad that gets welded to the frame first, then the new body mount spar is welded to that inside and out. Lastly, an internal gusset is welded into the spar and gives even more strength and rigidity to the new body mount.
While the C4 Body Mount Relocation system does require cutting off the old mount and welding a new mounting system to the frame, it is the answer if you’re wanting the maximum amount of tire clearance when cranked to full lock. When installed as part of the Oversized Tire Fitment kit, it allows folks with a 3-3 ½” lift to fit 35” tires with minimal to no rubbing at full ‘stuff.’
